Autumn Transitions & Mindful Living: A Designer’s Reflection
The change of seasons is always a reminder to slow down and take stock—both in life and in our surroundings. With fall upon us, the rhythm of routine is back, and for those of us with grown children, it comes with a touch of nostalgia. Planning meals, coordinating schedules, and maintaining order suddenly feels like a sweet, grounding exercise rather than a chore.
This year, my focus has been on mindful living. Understanding the hidden chemicals in everyday kitchen tools, beauty products, and even storage items has inspired a thoughtful overhaul. Swapping Teflon pans, plastic containers, and toxic lotions for safer alternatives has been a small but impactful step toward long-term wellness.
In between home organization and mindful cooking, I’ve found inspiration in literature. I am honored to highlight Mady Samper’s “My Gabriela”, a beautifully crafted memoir about her mother’s life and work as a pioneering Colombian filmmaker. The book delves into art, politics, and the evolution of Latin American cinema, offering lessons in courage, creativity, and legacy. It’s an enriching read for anyone passionate about storytelling and history.
October is shaping up to be an exciting month: industry events, High Point Market, and our ambitious international project in Colombia, SA. These experiences remind me why I love what I do—the opportunity to blend creativity, precision, and cultural sensitivity into every project.
As we enter the season of crisp air and cozy evenings, take a moment to breathe deeply, savor your meals, and reflect on the small choices that enhance your well-being. Life, much like design, is best approached with intention and joy.
Until next time,
